Celebrities, champs expected to return for Ironman 70.3 in Cebu

CEBU CITY, Philippines—Local celebrities and race professionals are expected to return in this year’s Cobra Ironman 70.3 triathlon slated on the first weekend of August in Mactan Island.
Organizers have said that a total of 2,616 participants will be joining this year’s race in Cebu. It will be the 7th time for Cebu province to host the international triathlon tournament.
The Ironman race in Cebu will again feature the Alaska Ironkids or the junior race that features children 6 to 14 years old. The swim-bike-run event for 169 kids will happen a day before the Ironman race day.
According to Princess Galura, Sunrise Events project director, actors Piolo Pascual, Matteo Guidicelli, Victor Basa, Paul Jake Castillo are among those who enlisted in the race.
Cebu world-class designer Kenneth Cobonpue will for the fourth time design the medals for the triathlon.
Triathlon professionals Brent McMahon will also return to defend his title along with Caroline Steffen for the Ladies event on the August 2 race.
Cebu’s Ironman 70.3 is represented by 52 countries across 6 continents.
The Ironkids event on the other hand will also feature a milk feeding campaign with 1,600 children from the Punta Engano Elementary School as beneficiaries.
Ironman champions Pete Jacobs, Caroline Steffen, and Alaska Tri-Aspire Team Coach Matt O’Halloran, and Filipino Elites Banjo Norte, and Jenny Guerrero will join the activity at Punta Engaño Elementary School.
On race day, the Ironman 70.3 will again close several roads in Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue, Cebu and Talisay cities.
Due to road repairs, some portions of the bike race traversing Mandaue City will have to use a smaller portion or just a single lane of the two lane road. The other lane will not be ready following repairs from the Department of Public Works and Highways. – Rappler.com
