MANILA, Philippines – Conor McGregor’s sweet revenge against Nate Diaz might only be the icing on the cake as he is coming home to Dublin, Ireland with a ton of cash in his bank account.
Aside from picking up a majority decision victory over Diaz at UFC 202 on Saturday, August 21 (Sunday Manila time), McGregor is earning $3 million for his appearance on the blockbuster pay-per-view (PPV) card, according to salary figures released by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
The figure is the highest-guaranteed paycheck for any fighter in the organization’s 23-year history.
The previous record was held by Brock Lesnar, who received $2.5 million for his heavyweight encounter against Mark Hunt this past July.
On the other hand, Diaz is set to receive $2 million for the welterweight rematch versus McGregor, who stands to make even more money as the PPV buys roll in.
Both men topped their previous payday when they first crossed paths as McGregor pocketed $1 million for his second-round submission loss to Diaz, who took home a flat salary of $500,000.
The highly-anticipated 170-pound rematch resulted in a “Fight of the Year” candidate for 2016 as McGregor managed to even the score in their head-to-head series.
McGregor and Diaz were also awarded with the "Fight of the Night" citation, with both men receiving an additional $50,000 bonus each. – Rappler.com
