Biado-De Luna tandem misses out on World Cup of Pool semis
MANILA, Philippines – Carlo Biado and Jeff de Luna saw their run in the World Cup of Pool 2018 come to a screeching halt as the Philippines absorbed a crushing 1-9 quarterfinal loss to China B on Saturday, May 19, in Shanghai, China.
The Filipino tandem were on a roll following convincing back-to-back wins in the elimination round but they found their match in China B's Dejing Kong and Ming Wang, who advanced to the semifinals against defending champion Austria.
After a 1-1 deadlock, the Chinese duo kept the Filipinos off the table en route to the triumph.
Despite the loss, the Philippines is still the winningest nation in World Cup of Pool history with 3 titles, the last when Dennis Orcollo and Lee Vann Corteza emerged as the last pair standing in 2013.
China B, Austria, Chinese Taipei and China A will duke it out in the semifinals, where they will try to stay alive for the championship and the $250,000 cash prize. – Rappler.com
