Arellano Lady Chiefs rebound from first PVL loss, sweep TIP
MANILA, Philippines - The Arellano University Lady Chiefs bounced back from their first loss of the season with a resounding 25-16, 25-15, 25-18 sweep over the Technological Institute of the Philippines Lady Engineers in the PVL Collegiate Conference at the Arena in San Juan Monday, September 18.
Arellano nabbed solo second in Group B with a 3-1 record and solidified their campaign for a semifinals slot while the Lady Engineers have lost all 4 of their games.
TIP started the third set with a 5-3 lead but the Lady Chiefs regained control at 14-10 behind an 11-5 spurt. The Lady Engineers kept the game within striking distance at 18-22 before Arellano scored 3 straight points for the victory.
“Kailangan pa rin namin paghandaan lalo na kung huli naming makakalaban ang UP since naghahabol din sila sa Adamson. Sinabi ko sa mga players na must-win tayo ngayon. Galing tayo sa talo pero gamitin natin ‘yun para iangat ang sarili natin,” said Arellano assistant coach Michael Santos. (We still need to prepare especially since we will face UP for our last game. I told the players that this is a must-win game and although we were coming from a loss, we needed to use that to lift ourselves.)
Regine Arocha dropped 17 points for Arellano built on 12 attacks and 4 aces while Andrea Marzan and Jovielyn Prado added 13 and 11 markers, respectively.
Alyssa Layug had 9 points for the Lady Engineers who are already eliminated from semis contention.
The Lady Chiefs are already assured of a playoff for a semis spot but will have a tough assignment for their last game as they face the UP Lady Maroons, who are also coming from an emphatic sweep over St. Benilde today, on September 30. – Rappler.com
