Lady Chiefs dismantle Lady Falcons to secure bronze in PVL, Ateneo wins men's title
MANILA, Philippines - The Arellano University Lady Chiefs prevented a meltdown and held on to a 25-22, 25-19, 19-25, 31-29 win over the Adamson University Lady Falcons to notch bronze in the PVL Collegiate Conference at the Arena in San Juan Saturday, October 14.
With the game on the brink of going into a deciding set following a 29-all tie in the fourth set, the Lady Chiefs got lucky as Adamson’s Mary Joy Dacoron committed a service error before Andrea Marzan blocked a Lady Falcon attempt to secure the victory.
The Lady Chiefs swept the Lady Falcons in Game 1 last Wednesday, 25-23, 26-24, 25-14.
Regine Arocha, who won the 2nd Best Outside Spiker award, paced the Lady Chiefs with 19 points, built on 16 kills and 3 service aces.
Marzan had 14, marked by 10 attacks and 3 blocks, while Necole Ebuen chipped in 10 for the win, highlighted by a drop that tied the fourth at 25-all.
After trailing 11-13 in the third set, the Lady Falcons turned the tables by going on a 7-0 run to take an 18-13 lead. Arellano kept things interesting by scoring back-to-back points but failed to find its footing in the endgame.
Adamson actually had the upper hand statistically by edging Arellano in attack points (58-50), block points (9-5), excellent digs (47-42) and excellent sets (33-31) but its 39 errors proved costly as the Lady Chiefs committed 25 errors only.
Bernadette Flora dropped a game-high 29 points in the losing effort while Christine Joy Soyud and Chiara May Permentilla added 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Earlier, Ateneo de Manila University made quick work of Far Eastern University in Game 2 of their best-of-3 championship series, 25-21, 25-22, 25-16, to win the title of the inaugural PVL Collegiate Conference men's division. – Rappler.com
