Jovelyn Gonzaga to miss time for Cignal with injured ACL
MANILA, Philippines - Two months before the 2018 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix, the Cignal HD Spikers are already dealt a huge blow after star Jovelyn Gonzaga was diagnosed with an injured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
Gonzaga, a national team mainstay, missed Cignal’s last 3 assignments in the recently concluded Grand Prix after suffering a bad fall in a loss to the Foton Tornadoes on November 21.
In a report by Spin.ph, Cignal head coach George Pascua initially said that Gonzaga sustained only a muscle strain from the fall. However, recent MRI results showed that Gonzaga has a torn ACL in her right knee.
“Hindi pa naooperahan, ACL ‘yung finding sa kaniya,” said Pascua through a text message.
(She has yet to undergo operating. Findings showed that she has an injured ACL.)
Pascua said that there is still no timetable for the operation of Gonzaga’s injury, which could sideline her for at least 6 to 9 months. That would mean the opposite hitter has a high chance of missing the next Grand Prix starting in February.
“Wala pa advice ng doctor. So far, strengthening pinapagawa ng doctor para mabilis recovery niya after operation,” Pascua added.
(There are no advice from the doctors yet. So far, they are telling her to do strengthening exercises to help her recover faster after the operation.) – Rappler.com
