Super Liga: RC Cola makes quick work of Cignal
MANILA, Philippines - The RC Cola AirForce Raiders looked absolutely stupendous in their 2014 Philippine Super Liga All-Filipino Conference debut, beating the Cignal HD Spikers, 25-17, 25-21, 25-22, on Sunday evening, May 25, at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
Behind 14 points from Joy Cases and 11 from Iari Yongco, the Raiders stormed off to an early advantage and never looked back, sending the HD Spikers to their second straight defeat.
RC Cola, meanwhile, improves to 1-0.
Cignal, which lost in five sets to AirAsia last Wednesday, was spearheaded by Honey Royse Tubino, who had 12 markers. No one else scored in double-figures, with Abigail Praca being the team's second leading scorer by contributing nine points.
After submitting in the first period, Cignal got into another huge deficit in the second set, falling behind by 10, 18-8. Thanks to some consecutive scores by Team Captain Michelle Datuin, who totaled seven points, the team was able to get back within striking distance. However, RC Cola bounced back and took the second set, 25-21.
The third canto was a closely-fought affair, with the HD Spikers getting within one, 23-22. But once again, the Raiders were the more clutch club, converting two straight points to end the contest.
