SEA Games: Philippines settles for silver in Men’s Team Foil
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines settled for the silver medal in the 28th Southeast Asian Games Men’s Team Foil competition after falling to Singapore, 45-40, in the championship match on Sunday, June 7, at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.
The Philippines, which was given a yellow card in the contest, was led by Nathaniel Perez who converted 18 touches total. Wilfred Curioso registered 12 touches.
The Singapore trio of Joshua Ian Lim, Yuan Zi Tan, and Kevin Jerrold Chan converted 5 touches each every time they were up for their turn. The 3 athletes finished with 15 touches apiece.
The Singaporeans’ lead was only at 30-28 heading into the final 3 rounds of the contest before Tan outscored Curioso, 5-2, to extend the lead to 5. Chan then outscored Brennan Louie, 5-3, extending their team’s lead to 7 which was enough of a threshold to hold on for the gold.
