WATCH: Katy Perry releases inspirational Olympic theme 'Rise'

MANILA, Philippines - Athletes heading to Rio de Janeiro next month have a new anthem to hype themselves up after Katy Perry's new single "Rise" was released straight to Apple Music and iTunes on Thursday, July 14. The song will be used as part of NBC's coverage for the Summer Olympics, which kick off August 5 (August 6 Manila time) and run through August 21.

This isn't the first time a Perry song has proven inspirational to a high profile athlete. Manny Pacquiao used Perry's "Roar" as his entrance theme on a few occasions after his knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012. – Rappler.com
