Laguna, Philippines—NCR ascended to the futsal semifinals after thrashing Zamboanga Peninsula, 5-0.
NCR bagged the most number of scored goals during the quarterfinals followed by Central Visayas, Western Visayas, and CARAGA, respectively.
According to Coach Bob Manlulo from NCR, being aggressive towards the ball plus speed and thinking led them to victory in every match.
Having the opportunity to play in a year-long tournament also prepped up their game.
Their participation in the Women National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (WNCAA) Futsal tournament served as their training for the Palaro. The tournament started its 1st August and ended in October while the 2nd phase happened from November to February.
“It’s an advantage for us unlike other provincial teams who are limited to certain tournaments only”, said the veteran coach of the Ateneo Lady Booters.
The most important thing that he taught to his players is that they should make up for the mistakes they make. He believes that his players are experienced enough to skilfully deliver and protect the ball.
The team captain of the NCR Futsal team shared that their only strategy is teamwork. They also developed “The Bob System” which they named after their coach. Basically, the Bob system is all about moving around to support each other, opening up when someone has the ball, and playing aggressively.
Elicit a good sportsmanship, be aggressive, and play as one are the team’s plan for the coming semis and hopefully, finals.
Asked if they can aim for the gold, the team said, “Definitely”.
The semis (am) and finals (pm) are scheduled on Friday (May 9, 2014) at UPLB Baker Hall.
