Mixed results for the Volcanoes in SEAG Rugby 7's opening matches
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine national rugby teams opened their 2017 Southeast Asia Games campaigns on Saturday, August 19 with mixed results.
The men's team's gold medal defense kicked off with wins against Indonesia and Cambodia with scorelines of 47-0 and 47-7, respectively, before falling to 2015's silver medalists Malaysia, 24-14.
The Volcanoes will next face Singapore and Thailand for the remaining round robin matches on Sunday.
The women's team was only able to claim one victory against Laos, 31-0, in the first set of matches. The Lady Volcanoes failed to claim points from Thailand and Singapore – who were the gold and silver medalists of the 2015 SEA Games – as they fell 32-0 and 25-0, respectively.
The Lady Volcanoes are at 1-2 record in the league and will be facing Malaysia on Sunday, August 20.
The gold medal and bronze medal matches will also be held on Sunday, August 20 after the round robin matches have been completed. – Rappler.com
