MANILA, Philipines - The Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws have claimed sole possession of third place as they dispose of the National University Lady Bulldogs in straight sets, 25-22, 25-21, 25-21, in the UAAP Season 78 women's volleyball tourney, February 28, at the FilOil Flying V Arena.
FEU strongly bounced back today after losing to the Adamson Lady Falcons in a 5-set thriller last Wednesday, and showed mastery over the Lady Bulldogs who also came from a heartbreaking loss against the UST Tigresses.
NU slides to 3-3.
Bernadeth Pons and Toni Rose Basas posted 18 and 16 points respectively to rally the Lady Tamaraws to a 4-3 win-loss record.
"Our training after we lost to Adamson bore fruit," FEU Coach Shaq Delos Santos said in Filipino.
"Nanghinayang kami pero naging malaking factor sa training namin," he added regarding Adamson's come-from-behind win against them.
The Lady Tamaraws opened the game like a well-oiled machine as they early dominated the Lady Bulldogs, clinching the first set, 25-22.
The ward of Delos Santos continued to sustain momentum in the second frame, posting an 8-point lead at matchpoint, 24-17, which NU wasn't able to recover from.
The Lady Bulldogs tried to snatch away the third set with the persistent efforts of Jorelle Singh and Jasmine Nabor on the offensive side but a Jeanette Villareal kill gave FEU their comeback win.
Jaja Santiago and Nabor both finished with 12 points while Singh contributed 10 markers. – Rappler.com
