UAAP Volleyball: Lady Falcons claw past listless UE to return to .500
MANILA, Philippines – The Adamson University Lady Falcons remained in contention for a Final Four slot after trouncing the University of the East Lady Warriors, 25-17, 25-20, 25-9 in the 76th UAAP Women’s Volleyball tournament, Wednesday, January 29 at The Arena in San Juan City.
With the win, Adamson gets back to .500 as they improve their record to 5-5 to inch closer to fourth placer Far Eastern University which currently holds a 5-4 win-loss slate as the season nears its homestretch.
The Lady Falcons once again banked on its ever-reliables in Sheila Pineda and Amanda Villanueva as the tandem finished with 12 markers apiece to lead AdU over the still winless Lady Warriors.
The Recto crew entered the game with high spirits as they held their ground before the Lady Falcons in the early goings but Mayette Zapanta and Villanueva managed to turn a three-point margin midway in the frame to a 25-17 bubble to end the opening set in their favor.
UE then fell to numerous lapses in the second canto as Adamson erected a ten-point lead, 24-14, but the Lady Warriors rode a 6-0 spurt before Jessica Galanza ended the set for Adamson, 25-20.
Adamson then finished off UE with ease as they practically manhandled the Lady Warriors in a 25-9 third set rout.
Leading UE this afternoon was Ma. Shaya Adorador who garnered 11 points with skipper Faith Bulan contributing 8.
UE continues their struggle as they fall to 0-10, winning only three sets so far in Season 76.
Adamson will face Ateneo de Manila on Saturday, February 1, while UE squares off with the streaking National University Lady Bulldogs on Sunday, February 2. - Rappler.com
