La Salle's Mbala leads UAAP MVP race after first round
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – De La Salle University big man Ben Mbala leads the UAAP men's basketball tournament MVP race after compiling the highest amount of statistical points (95.29) in the entire league after the first round.
Mbala is averaging 20.7 points, 16.3 rebounds, 2.1 steals, 2.1 blocks, and 1.4 assists in 29.6 minutes per game for the Green Archers, who are undefeated at 7-0. It's the first year in the league for the Cameroonian recruit, who served 3 years of residency before making his debut.
Coming in second is Adamson's Papi Sarr, who has compiled 71.43 SPs. Mbala's La Salle teammate, Jeron Teng, is third with 56.33 points while Raymar Jose from FEU is at fourth place with 54 points. UP's Paul Desiderio, who has 53.86 SPs, rounds off the top 5.
In sixth place is Adamson freshman Jerrick Ahanmisi, who also leads the race for Rookie of the Year with 51.86 points. Matt Salem from NU is seventh with 51.29 points and Alfred Aroga – also from NU – is eighth with 51.14 points. – Rappler.com
