UE ends season winless at the hands of UST
MANILA, Philippines – The UST Tigresses cruised through their final eliminations match and swept the hapless UE Lady Red Warriors, 25-10, 25-22, 25-11, in the UAAP Season 77 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday, February 21 at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Warriors ended their Season 77 campaign at 0-14, which is their third consecutive winless season since Season 75.
Rookie EJ Laure tallied all of her 11 points from attacks while team captain Pam Lastimosa contributed 10 points.
Marivic Meneses and Mela Tunay added 9 and 6 points, respectively, as the Tigresses finished the elimination round at 6-8 and, together with the FEU Lady Tamaraws, are clinging to the fourth semifinals spot.
The UP Lady Maroons (5-8) could also join the log jam for fourth place if they win versus the NU Lady Bulldogs on Sunday, February 22.
If UP loses, UST and FEU will have a playoff for the last Final Four ticket. But in the event of a 3-way tie, the two teams with inferior quotient will battle in a knockout match before going up against the team with the superior quotient for the right to play in the Final Four.
UE had no players in double digits with Shaya Adorador scoring 9 points, while Angelica Dacaymat adding 6 markers.
The listless UE, who only put up a fight in the close second set, piled up 31 errors compared to just 15 from the Tigresses. – Rappler.com
