Specs comparison: iPhone 8 and 8 Plus vs Google Pixel 2 and 2 XL

MANILA, Philippines – On Thursday, October 5, Philippine time, Google unveiled its new Pixel phones, the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL.

While the name doesn't yet have the same cachet as Apple's iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, spec- and feature-wise, the Pixel 2 phones are definitely in the same class as the two iPhones mentioned above.

That's why we're pitting the two series together in this comparison of specs and features below.

Which one do you think offers better bang for the buck?

PIxel 2 vs iPhone 8

First up, we have the Pixel 2 and the iPhone 8. The Pixel 2 has the bigger screen, the higher resolution, and has more RAM. But the iPhone 8, like its bigger brother the 8 Plus, has that all-important A11 Bionic chip that may be the fastest mobile chip out there at this moment.

The Pixel 2 also has the bigger battery and the higher-rated camera – and is also $50 cheaper. If you can do away with the Apple brand – and this can be said for other Android phones too – the Pixel 2 may be offering a more value-packed unit. The caveat: there's still no sign that Google is bringing over the Pixel phones in the Philippines.

Pixel 2 XL vs iPhone 8 Plus

Now for the supersized versions: the Pixel 2 XL with the 6-inch screen and the iPhone 8 Plus with a 5.5-inch display. Amazingly, the XL is lighter at 175 grams compared to the 202 grams of the Plus. The XL is quad HD while the Plus is just full HD. Both have 12MP rear shooters but the Plus has the advantage of having a telephoto lens. Battery advantage goes to the XL and so does the RAM but if it's sheer maximum storage you want, the Plus can be had with 256GB.

Unlike the standard Pixel and 8, Google's phone is the one that's slightly more expensive this time around, with an $849 price tag compared to the Plus' $799. Check out the full specs:
