Opera browsers get integrated ad-blocker
MANILA, Philippines – The folks behind the Opera browser appear to be hard at work adding new features to the various versions of Opera.
Following the introduction of a virtual private network (VPN) feature into the Opera browser, the company is now introducing integrated ad-blocking on Opera and Opera Mini.
The new ad-blocking feature on Opera's browsers aims to shorten loading times significantly.
In a blog post, Opera wrote the ad blocking "happens at the web engine level, making page loads much faster, while consuming much less memory than extension-based ad blockers."
Opera's research showed browsing with the ad-blocking feature is around 62% faster than without an ad blocker. In a test with 10 tabs opened, the company also noted reduced RAM usage of up to 600MB while the ad blocker is enabled.
Turning on the new feature in Opera and Opera Mini is as simple as going into the settings on the latest version of Opera on your device, and enabling ad blocking with a click or tap. – Rappler.com
