In the UK, 'porn passes' will be required to view adult websites

MANILA, Philippines - The British government may have just found a logistical workaround to their age verification problem in their attempt to stop those under 18 from visiting adult websites. Later this year, a legislation will offer an option for visitors of these websites to verify their age by purchasing a “porn pass.”

This so-called “porn pass,” as reported by The Telegraph, is a 16-digit code that is going be sold in local newsstands for £10 (around P710). Buyers must present some form of valid ID, either passport or driver’s license to serve as proof-of-age to the clerk.

The pass can also be used to buy alcohol and knives online, which are items tightly restricted in the UK.

The earlier proposal was to have visitors enter their credit card information in the site they choose to visit. However, the porn pass was deemed as the most viable because reports say that a considerable amount of individuals still don't use credit cards or transact with banks in the UK.

The new legislation is expected to be imposed towards the end of the year. – Rappler.com
