Ray-Ban, Oakley to design stylish Google Glass
MANILA, Philippines – Good news for fashion-conscious techies! Luxottica Group - the company behind popular eyewear brands Ray-Ban and Oakley announced its partnering with Google "to design, develop and distribute a new breed of eyewear for Glass."
In a statement released Monday, March 24 (Tuesday, March 25 in the Philippines) Luxottica said it will be working closely with Google as the two companies aim to create "Glass products that straddle the line between high-fashion, lifestyle and innovative technology."
From the time it was introduced to a select group of "Explorers" back in 2012, there has been little to no changes to the way Glass looks.
Luxottica Group CEO Andrea Guerra believes the partnership is timely as the wearable tech industry gains ground.
"We believe it is high time to combine the unique expertise, deep knowledge and quality of our Group with the cutting edge technology expertise of Google and give birth to a new generation of revolutionary devices," said Guerra.
Google Glass is currently only available to developers. READ: Looking through Google Glass
With the smart watch design taking a step forward with the introduction of the round Moto 360, the Google-Luxottica partnership seems promising and could just be what the smart eyewear needs to get a wider appreciation as it gears up for a public release. – Rappler.com
