LinkedIn acquires Lynda.com for $1.5B
MANILA, Philippines – Professional networking site LinkedIn.com announced last April 9 its acquisition of Lynda.com – an educational site that provides video courses for software, creative and business skills.
In a LinkedIn blog post, Head of Content Ryan Roslansky said the $1.5 billion move will help professionals around the world to push on with their careers.
This is in line with the company’s concept of the ‘Economic Graph’ where they will ‘digitally map the global economy.’
The idea is to have a database of all professionals, companies, job opportunities (along with the skill required for those), and higher educational institutions in order to “connect talent with the opportunity at massive scale.”
“Imagine being a job seeker and being able to instantly know what skills are needed for the available jobs in a desired city, like Denver, and then to be prompted to take the relevant and accredited course to help you acquire this skill.” Roslansky said on the possibilities of Lynda.com’s intergration to LinkedIn.
Lynda.com is a video-tutorial site founded in 1995 popular mainly for its courses on Photoshop, After Effects, web design and other modern tech skills. – Rappler.com
