MANILA, Philippines – Social media users both in the United States and overseas were glued to their screens as the US presidential elections unfolded on Tuesday, November 8 (Wednesday, November 9, Manila time).
From Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump being heckled to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's Mannequin Challenge, here's what went viral on social media, so far.
Trump booed in New York
As Trump left the polling station in New York after casting his vote, hecklers booed him outside, shouting statements like, "New York hates you!"
Unfazed, the Republican candidate waved and entered his vehicle with a smile.
Clinton Mannequin Challenge
To entice the youth to cast their vote, Clinton and her team took part in the viral Mannequin Challenge. Some, however, weren't amused.
Eric Trump tweets his ballot
Despite laws in several US states prohibiting the taking and posting of photos of ballots, Donald Trump's son Eric tweeted a photo of his ballot to show support for his father.
Ann Coulter criticized for tweet

Ann Coulter, known political commentator, was chastised for a tweet that some considered racist and presumptive. She had tweeted that people with 4 grandparents born in America would likely vote for Trump.

A photo showing Trump taking a peek at his wife Melania's ballot at the polling station amused netizens who joked that the billionaire mogul probably didn't trust Melania to vote for him.
Trump website 'hacked'
In the middle of the election day frenzy, a link that allowed people to edit the header of Trump's website spread online. People came up with different statements and tweeted photos showing that the website had been "hacked."
Bernie Sanders votes
Former Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders posted a photo of him casting his vote, saying he hopes Trump is defeated. Sanders' supporters then commented on his post, saying they wished he had been their candidate instead.

A racist tweet from former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee was condemned online, as he said Clinton would "appoint her Filipino maid to head CIA" and there would be "no need to train her" – a reference to Clinton supposedly asking her housekeeper to print sensitive government files.
