MANILA, Philippines – Who are the 10 most followed Filipinos on Twitter?
Twitter released its first #YearOnTwitter (#YOT) in the Philippines report on Tuesday, December 6. See who Filipinos deemed to be the most follow-worthy this year.
10. Alden Richards (@aldenrichards02)
Alden Richards is Al in the Internet phenomenon AlDub. The love team started making massive online waves in 2015. (READ: #AlDub sets new record)

Despite being tenth on the list, Richards has probably one of the most highly-engaged followers. His tweets get thousands of retweets and likes. See a few here:

She was one of the few celebrities to join Twitter in February 2009. Here's her first impression of Twitter:

If you don't learn your history, you are doomed to repeat it. More and more relevant, that adage has become.— Lea Salonga (@MsLeaSalonga) November 18, 2016
Her daughter is also a fan of two of the most-followed celebrities on Twitter in the country. Hence, the engagement on these posts:
So, ladies, what are we supposed to do? Saan tayo lulugar? pic.twitter.com/YwFWe3K4HK— Lea Salonga (@MsLeaSalonga) August 26, 2016
So... we had #KathNiel with us to promote their latest film Barcelona. Holy wow, they're gorgeous.— Lea Salonga (@MsLeaSalonga) August 28, 2016
Salonga first joined Twitter on April 16, 2009, when she tweeted her curiosity over whether the platform was better than social networking site Facebook. (We wonder what she thinks of it 7 years later.)
Was at ABS-CBN today to tape something. #KathNiel stopped by to say hi. My daughter, upon seeing Daniel, suddenly burst into tears.— Lea Salonga (@MsLeaSalonga) October 9, 2016
I'm catching up on Heroes... and doing a little paperwork. Hmmm... I wonder if this Twitter thing is better than Facebook.— Lea Salonga (@MsLeaSalonga) April 16, 2009
An exception to the list, this account is not the personal handle of a celebrity. Created in November 2009, @ohteenquotes tweets relatable things to the average teen.
"A lot of millennials flock to Twitter and express themselves. There’s a lot of authenticity," said Dickson Seow, Head of Communications for Twitter in Asia Pacific.
