COURT STOPS JUNJUN BINAY'S SUSPENSION
Makati city mayor Junjun Binay remains in office.
The Court of Appeals issues a temporary restraining order or TRO against the preventive suspension filed by the Ombudsman against Binay.
The suspension was supposed to take effect Monday…
with Vice Mayor Romulo Pena taking his oath as acting mayor early in the morning.
Pena, a former Binay ally, vows to “cleanse” city hall.
But Binay was defiant, telling people to await the court’s decision.
JUNJUN BINAY, MAKATI MAYOR: Nasa hukuman na po ang aking kaso, at bahagi naman po ito ng legal na proseso. Kinukuwestyon po natin ang suspension order na wala namang basehan at di po naaayon sa batas.
(My case is already in the appellate court, and this is part of the legal process. We’re questioning here the baseless suspension order.)
Binay locked himself up in the city hall for five days in defiance of the suspension.
He and father Vice President Jejomar Binay face corruption allegations over an overpriced parking building.
USMAN'S ALLEGED CODDLER ARRESTED
Joint forces from the military and the police arrest the suspected coddler of wanted terrorist Abdul Basit Usman.
Troops arrested Ali Mohammad Tambako Sunday night in General Santos City.
The military saysTambako protected both Usman and Malaysian terrorist Marwan…
high-value targets in the bloody January 25 operation of the police Special Action Force in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.
The military adds Tambako formed a new breakaway group…
the Justice for Islamic Movement that coddles Usman and 5 foreign terrorists...
supposedly teaching bombmaking to Filipinos.
Tambako is in Manila for further interrogation.
Military chief Gregorio Catapang is confident they will eventually capture Usman.
GREGORIO CATAPANG JR., AFP CHIEF OF STAFF: They know their exits and entrance, and they can move around. But what is important is we know where they are, and we’ll be running after them.
FEW THOUSANDS LEFT IN CORONA COUPLE'S BANK ACCOUNTS
Anti-graft court Sandiganbayan sheriffs find only a little over P7,500 left in the bank accounts of former chief justice Renato Corona and his wife Cristina.
The Coronas were served writs of attachment in connection with a P130.6-million forfeiture case.
An attachment on a bank account freezes it, preventing a depositor from withdrawing money.
In the case of the Coronas, the court order came only after the bank accounts had been drained.
The former chief justice was ousted in 2012 and faces charges of ill-gotten wealth.

Cyclone-devastated Vanuatu declares a state of emergency Sunday as relief agencies scrambled to get help to the remote Pacific nation.
Super Cyclone Pam, a category five storm with winds reaching 320 kilometers or 200 miles an hour, hit one of the world’s poorest nations on March 13, Friday.
The UN says Super Cyclone Pam killed 44 people in one province alone
while Oxfam says 90% of homes in the capital Port Villa are damaged.
Authorities say conditions are ‘more difficult’ than Haiyan.
Vanuatu's President Baldwin Lonsdale says the humanitarian need is immediate and they need international funding to rebuild the infrastructure the cyclone destroyed.
