#TalkThursday: Poverty - Behind the numbers
MANILA, Philippines - On #TalkThursday this week is Jose Ramon Albert, the Secretary General of the National Statistical Coordination Board. Appointed by President Benigno Aquino III, Albert serves the government's lead agency for setting statistical standards and policies.
Prior to government service, Albert was a consultant for development agencies such as the United Nations Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (UNSIAP), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank Group, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the Department for International Development.
In a press conference on Tuesday, April 23, Albert said that poverty incidence for the first semester of 2012 stands at 27.9%, virtually unchanged from the same period in 2006 and 2009.
He will talk to Rappler today about the newest data on poverty in the Philippines and share his insights into the implications behind the numbers.
