JAKARTA, Indonesia – Mary Jane Veloso is now back at the Wirongunan prison in Yogyakarta, after an 11th-hour reprieve from execution on Wednesday, April 29.
"She's already here. She arrived at 8 am. She's healthy," Zaenal Arifin, head of the prison, told merdeka.com.
Veloso underwent an initial check-up and was registered again.
"She had to register again, like she's a new resident here," Arifin added.
Veloso's execution was delayed, while the 8 other drug trafficking convicts – which included 7 foreigners and one Indonesian – were put to death early Wednesday in Nusakambangan Island.
Indonesian Attorney General HM Prasetyo said an exception was made for Veloso "because there was a last-minute plea from the Philippine President. There was someone who surrendered today. She claimed she was the one who recruited Mary Jane." – Rappler.com
