IN PHOTOS: Tourists stranded, flights canceled in Bali
JAKARTA, Indonesia (UPDARED) – Indonesia will extend the closure of an international airport on popular Bali resort island until at least Friday morning due to ash from an erupting volcano. Nearly 700 flights, including 320 international ones, were canceled between Tuesday and Thursday.
Authorities had closed the Ngurah Rai International Airport late Tuesday due to a large ash cloud drifting from Mount Rinjani, an active volcano on the nearby island of Lombok.
A total of 106 flights on Wednesday were canceled, including 59 international flights, Yulfiadi said, adding that the "situation is still under control."
